In
2003, discussions began with Revenant's Dean Blackwood about
what form this boxed set would take. True to the label's
history, Dean wanted something unconventional and daring.
What
materialized was a box of "sacred possessions":
a faux onyx Eastern-themed carved box filled not only with
the unreleased music of Ayler, but a treasure trove of related
documents and ephemera.
A design
for the outer box was drawn up and then carved by Reagan
Johns. That original box was used to form the mold for the
mass-prodced version.
